At the confluence of the rivers Utmar and Ot, the White Tower of Thirteen Mysteries stands like a sentinel over the surrounding forest.
That's what I learned earlier today when Valaric left Malvernia behind to visit his old mentor, Ebeneezer Froad in chapter 5 of my second draft. Things feel a lot more natural this second time through and I'm managing to get around a lot of the stuff I wasn't too fond of in the previous draft.
I'm reallly excited about writing the ending now that it's pretty clear in my mind. I'm thinking about doing it now and then filling in the gaps.
I'm curious about your drafts - do you actually entirely rewrite, or just edit what's already there? I ask because when I edit, I don't tend to rewrite things, just edit what I already have.
ReplyDeleteTrisha, normally I do my editing the same way you do. However, I didn't have a clear enough plan before I started writing this time and I'm having to make some big changes to undo the problems I kept running into later in the story, namely too many characters to keep track of and no good way to tie things together at the end. I'm replacing a couple chapters and shuffling some dialogue to other characters. It's a pain in the ass and has already been quite a learning experience.
ReplyDeleteI hope this has been informative or at least mildly interesting.
